St. Vincent
Debuted: June 18th, 2009
The Session:
St. Vincent
About:
The “buzz” word gets thrown around a lot in Nashville. Whether it’s some local
band on the cusp of national damnation or a touring band that gets you valuable
street cred just being seen at their show. Naturally, we were skeptical when we
checked out St. Vincent and naturally, we were blown away by what we heard. Her
sound has an inventiveness mixed with a disarming charm that made it enjoyable
to find out what sounds would appear next. To pile on two more clichés, it’s
fresh and clever. To be serious though, we would say that it sounds very genuine
which is something that not everyone can or should do. When we learned that St.
Vincent would be doing the session acoustically, curiosity arose as to whether
the nuances and openness of the records would translate to this stripped down
nature. After witnessing it first hand, the answer is a hypnotic yes. Annie
Clark hails from the flatlands of Texas and is travelling around the country and
abroad under the name St. Vincent and her live show (which we caught at The
Mercy Lounge and again at Bonnaroo) brings all the intricate bells and whistles
from the record to the audience, making the session’s acoustic renditions that
much more impressive to us. She’s currently supporting her newest release
Actor on 4AD. We hope everyone enjoys this session as much as we
enjoyed making it and be sure to go see her live if she comes remotely close to
a town nearby. Your street cred can’t afford for you not to go honestly.
